The Sea-Doo GTI 90 was the smallest member of the lively GTI family. Unlike larger GTIs with 130-170hp engines, this model was powered by the much smaller Rotax 900 HO ACE rated at 90hp. Sea-Doo marketed this entry-level GTI 90 from 2017 through 2022.

Sea-Doo GTI 90 Review

Sea-Doo GTI 90 History

Believe it or not, Sea-Doo GTIs have been around since 1996 when the Canadian manufacturer revealed the 2-stroke GTI 720.Since then, this ski has undergone many upgrades and eventually grew into an entire model family.

The first 4-stroke GTIs were the 2010 Sea-Doo GTI 130/SE 130, which were heavily upgraded for the 2011 model year.

In 2017, the GTI line borrowed the Polytec hull material and the Rotax 900 HO ACE engine from the Spark series, and the GTI 90 was born.

This model was manufactured from 2017 through 2020, while its “SE” variant was only available in the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty and talk about these skis in detail!

Sea-Doo GTI 90 Hull

Just like any other member of this family, the GTI 90 was also built on the tiny and medium-sized GTI hull. (This platform is still used in other Sea-Doo lines, including the GTR and smaller Wake and Fish Pro models.)

But unlike their predecessors, the hull of the 2017 GTIs was made of Polytec, and the GTI 90 was no exception. This material made its debut on the 2014 Spark, but later found its way into larger Sea-Doo families.

In terms of measurements, the GTI platform measures 132.6 inches in length, 48.5 inches in width, and 44 inches in height.

Unlike the larger ST3 and T3-R hulls, this lively shell features a medium-V design and a low center of gravity.

Sea-Doo GTI 90 Engine

Interestingly, Sea-Doo marketed the GTI with three different engine options in the 2017 model year.

The GTI SE 155 and GTI LTD 155 enjoyed the Rotax 1503 NA rated at 155hp, while the midrange GTI SE 130 housed the Rotax 1503 4-TEC rated at 130hp.

Both of these engines were based on the same 1494cc, SOHC, triple-cylinder Rotax power mills.

Unlike their brothers, the GTI 90 was designed with the much smaller 899cc, 90hp, Rotax 900 HO ACE engine.

Before the introduction of the GTI 90, this engine was exclusively used in the Spark series, which is why it was often referred to as the “Spark engine.”The key specs of this Spark/GTI 90 engine were as follows:

  • Type: 4-stroke, Inline-3, 12-valve
  • Displacement: 899cc
  • Engine power: 66.19kW @ 7300 RPM
  • Naturally-aspirated
  • Dual over head camshaft (DOHC)
  • Compression ratio: 11.0:1
  • Water-cooled exhaust system
  • Dry sump lubrication system
  • Multi-port fuel injection
  • Watertight digital ignition
  • iTC (Intelligent Throttle Control)
  • D-Sea-Bel sound reduction system
  • Closed-loop cooling system
  • Electric starter

The propulsion system of the GTI 90 was a standard axial-flow, single-stage Sea-Doo jet pump, featuring a three-blade, stainless steel impeller.

Sea-Doo GTI 90 Features

Even though it was marketed as the entry-level model in the Recreation series, the GTI 90 came standard with a wide range of innovative features.

Without the need for completeness, the most important of them were the special DESS key, iTC throttle control, and the innovative iBR brake and reverse system.

The advanced VTS trim system was not available on the base GTI 90, only on the GTI SE 90.

Regarding storage spaces, the top deck of the GTI 90 housed a standard bow storage and a glovebox.

They had a combined capacity of 30.8 gallons, while the fuel capacity of the ski was 15.9 gallons.

Sea-Doo GTI 90 Performance

Let’s face it, the GTI 90 never became popular because of its low engine power. Many riders found this model quite underpowered and with good reason.

While its Rotax 900 HO ACE engine did a good job in the smaller Sea-Doo Sparks, its 90hp was simply not enough for the larger and heavier GTI hull.

The top speed of the GTI 90 was only 40-42 mph and offered poor acceleration.

In contrast, its 130hp siblings topped out at 50-52 mph and the top-of-the-line 155hp GTIs could hit 53-55 mph.

Due to low market interest, Sea-Doo discontinued the GTI 90 after the 2020 season.
