Candy Bar Fondue

Another thing I will often do is melt candy bars for the fondue. My favorite candy bars to use are Toberlone and Symphony bars. You can use candy bars with nuts or toffee bits too for some extra flavor and crunch. Just replace the chopped chocolate with chopped candy bar.See what fun combinations you can come up with.

Chocolate Fondue Dippers

This is where you can really get creative! You can pretty much use anything to dip into chocolate!! I like to use a combination of sweet and salty and I like to use a tray like this to put all my dippers on.

Sweet:

  • Cookies such as vanilla wafers, biscotti, Oreos,or whatever your favorite is.
  • Graham Crackers
  • Pound Cake
  • Brownies
  • Angel Food Cake. Cut into cubes
  • Rice Krispie Treats
  • Meringues
  • Candy red licorice or even jelly beans
  • Marshmallows
  • Fruit Strawberries, orange segments, pineapple, pears, apples and bananas are a favorite at our house. Dried fruit also works great such as dried apricots, mango and papaya.

Salty:

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of chocolate should I use?

You can switch up your type of chocolate depending on your mood. I usually use a combination of milk chocolate and semi sweet chocolate, using a 2:1 ratio. If you prefer darker chocolate use semi sweet and dark chocolate. I also like to make this with white chocolate.
I prefer to use bars of chocolate rather than chips. Chop them up and they melt better and don’t harden as quickly as chocolate chips do. Use the highest quality chocolate you can for the best flavor and texture.

What kind of fondue pot should I use?

I own four different fondue pots. I actually still have my mother’s fondue pot from the 70’s! If I am doing a hot oil/meat fondue I use an electric fondue pot to get the oil hot enough and keep it at an even temperature. You can also use it for chocolate or cheese fondue but it has to be plugged in and then you have to deal with a cord and worry about someone tripping over it.
For chocolate and cheese fondue I like to use the smaller fondue pot that uses a tea light for heat. I own two of those. The trick is you just have to be sure and stir the fondue once in a while so that it doesn’t burn on the bottom as it get a bit hot in the center where the tea light is. It doesn’t heat as evenly as the electric but works well for cheese or fondue. I usually warm the cheese or chocolate in the microwave first and then put it into the fondue pot.
Another alternative is to use a small crockpot.

Fondue Variations

It is easy to add additional flavors to your chocolate fondue.

Marshmallow Fondue: Add a couple of spoonfuls of marshmallow fluff into the chocolate fondue and just swirl it around. For a prettier presentation do not stir to fully incorporate. Leaven streaks of marshmallow.

Peanut Butter Fondue: Add a few spoonfuls of peanut butter into the chocolate fondue and stir to swirl. Leave streaks of peanut butter visable.
